Hearst Castle, San Simeon on July 4th

We had to say good-bye to Moonstone Landing in Cambria as we made our way a few miles up the coast to San Simeon, home to Hearst Castle.

Moonstone Landing in Cambria....ahhh....
The one thing that I recalled so clearly from previous visits was the outdoor pool at Hearst Castle. What a gorgeous pool. Our tour guide told us that the staff now gets to use it occasionally--and they use it more NOW than the guests of Hearst did in his entertaining heyday!

Hearst Castle, outdoor pool. Statuary and columns abound.
Breath-taking view

Mosaics on the stairs and walls.

3000 year old Eqyptian statuary
The decorated front door to the drawing room at Hearst Castle.

Yes, that is real gold leaf.

Beautiful ebony statue in the drawing room

The dining room was used as a model for the Harry Potter movies--the dining hall at Hogwarts!

The indoor pool featured gold-encrusted tiles....alabaster lamps...it was amazing.
Now, for the drive up the coast to Pacific Grove...
